Three members of a medical helicopter crew tragically lost their lives on Monday in a crash in Kentucky, as confirmed by the company operating the service.
“Air Evac Lifeteam is deeply saddened to report that three crew members from AEL base 133 were killed in a helicopter crash in Owenton, Kentucky today,” the company shared in a statement.
The crew was en route to pick up a patient when the accident occurred, according to the company.
Law enforcement notified Air Evac Lifeteam of the incident.
“This is an incredibly tragic accident, and our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the crew,” the statement continued.
The helicopter team was based in Grant County, Kentucky, the company added.
“Our current focus is on providing support to the affected families and our team members. Critical incident stress management teams have been dispatched to assist our staff during this challenging time,” the company said.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced an investigation into the crash.

“The NTSB is investigating the Oct. 7 crash of a Bell 206L-3 helicopter near Owenton, Kentucky,” the agency posted on its X account Monday night.
