Mail delivery has been halted in a Kansas neighborhood after a postal carrier was assaulted by two men following an encounter with aggressive dogs. The postal worker used pepper spray to protect himself from the dogs, which were chasing him during his route.
Residents of the 41 affected homes in Wichita must now collect their mail from the nearest post office, according to Paul Shade, spokesperson and inspector for the U.S. Postal Service.
On September 21, police responded to a report of an assault and discovered that the postal worker had suffered facial injuries, said police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo.
The incident began when the carrier was pursued by two dogs while delivering mail. After using pepper spray, the carrier returned to his vehicle but was followed by two men for several blocks, who then assaulted him, Shade explained.

“Thankfully, our carrier is going to be OK,” Shade assured.
Police are searching for the suspects, and no arrests have been made. Mail delivery will remain suspended until the situation is resolved, Shade added.
