A small plane made an emergency landing on a highway near a North Carolina airport and was subsequently struck by a vehicle, resulting in an injury to one of the plane’s occupants, authorities reported.
The single-engine aircraft experienced a mechanical issue and sent out a distress signal around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Greensboro Police Department. The distress call was directed to Piedmont Triad International Airport.
The plane successfully touched down on the westbound lanes of Interstate 840, near the intersection with Interstate 73. However, shortly after it came to a stop, it was hit by a passenger vehicle. One of the two people aboard the plane sustained a minor injury and was transported to a hospital, while the driver of the passenger vehicle remained unharmed.
