Sources, including the NFL Network, report that Jason Kelce, a highly regarded figure in Philadelphia Eagles history, has decided to retire from his successful 13-year career. The renowned center – recognized for securing seven Pro Bowl appearances and winning a Super Bowl championship – shared the news privately with teammates after their disheartening loss of 32-9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kelce, who was 36 years old at the time, opted out of speaking to reporters after Philadelphia’s playoffs ended in Tampa. Nevertheless, it was clear from his emotional demeanor on the sidelines that their loss deeply affected him. A poignant moment captured on camera showed him sharing a heartfelt embrace with Jeff Stoutland, coach for Eagles’ offensive line during the game’s final moments.

Kelce, a notable member of the Eagles team, received high praise from head coach Nick Sirianni who expressed deep appreciation for him. According to Sirianni, Kelce is an exceptional individual and will remain valuable to the team in all circumstances due to his distinct set of skills. In fact, he described Kelce as one of the most extraordinary persons that have come his way during his career in coaching.

The Eagles’ right tackle, Lane Johnson, expressed similar thoughts and praised Kelce for being an incomparable teammate since their collaboration in 2013. Besides playing together on the field, they have worked jointly on two Christmas albums. Johnson acknowledged that it was impossible to replace Kelce’s contribution to the team.

Kelce was selected by the Eagles in 2011, following his enrollment at the University of Cincinnati. Throughout his time with Philly, he has garnered significant recognition for his incredible skills as a football player; receiving six All-Pro awards and seven Pro Bowl nods, both of which came to him once again in 2023. However, Kelce’s contributions extend beyond just athletics – he is cherished among Philadelphians due to several notable factors, including an unforgettable speech made during celebrations for their Super Bowl win in 2018.

Jalen Hurts, the Eagles quarterback, showed his respect for Kelce’s legacy in both the city and league. He recognized the obstacles that Kelce faced on his journey and praised him accordingly. Furthermore, Hurts expressed deep admiration towards Kelce who has made a permanent impression in his heart.

Apart from football, Kelce has a remarkable association with the community. By participating in charitable activities like guest bartending at Sea Isle City to raise funds for the Eagles Autism Foundation, he actively contributes towards social welfare. Moreover, his honest reflection on the Ben Simmons issue (with 76ers) earlier this year emphasizes accountability and improvement while highlighting his considerable insight into Philadelphia’s sports culture.
