According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, two 10-year-old boys met a tragic death in Wisconsin after their father evaded a routine traffic stop and led authorities on a pursuit that concluded with a deadly collision late one Wednesday night.
At 11:49 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy pulled over the father for speeding and not having license plates. Initially, the driver cooperated but then suddenly sped off, leading law enforcement to initiate a pursuit. The chase ended approximately 11 miles away in a town, with the vehicle crashing and resulting in the tragic loss of two children.
Eric Severson, the Sheriff of Waukesha County conveyed the serious nature of the incident and described it as a “dreadful vehicular accident”. He offered his sympathies to those who have suffered loss in this mournful situation. Furthermore, he confirmed that there was no involvement by law enforcement agencies and that the vehicle lost control on its own, causing the collision.
During a press conference, Sheriff Severson clarified that due to the high speed at which the vehicle was fleeing, deputies were unable to maintain visual contact, and WTMJ’s aerial footage revealed an overturned sedan at the scene of the crash.
Besides the deaths, there were four other individuals in the vehicle: a twenty-nine-year-old driver, his partner, a six-year-old girl and a fourteen-year-old girl. All of them sustained injuries; as per the sheriff’s department reports – two kids are critically injured while driving is on critical but stable condition and remaining adult has been stabilized.
An investigation into the traffic crash will be conducted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, as announced. Sheriff Severson has reassured that there seems to be no apparent wrongdoing on behalf of the involved deputies despite being in an early stage of investigation.
Although the names of the victims were not promptly disclosed by the sheriff’s office, it was discovered that the driver had an open warrant for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
