On Tuesday, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office declared that a California fertility doctor had been found guilty of murdering his wife through strangulation and trying to make it appear as if she had accidentally fallen downstairs.
According to a statement from the district attorney’s office, E. Scott Sills has been convicted of his wife Susann Sill’s murder in 2016 and may now be sentenced up to 15 years to life imprisonment.
In 2019, authorities apprehended Sills and pressed charges against him. According to the prosecution’s revelations, on November 16th 2016, Sills contacted emergency services asserting that his spouse had tumbled down a flight of stairs. However, the evidence presented during trial suggested that Susann Sills experienced strangulation resulting in her death. Additionally discovered were bloodstains present on both walls and curtains located within their San Clemente residence where she was sleeping at the time of her demise.
Throughout the trial, attorney Jack Earley presented arguments to jurors suggesting that Susann had a habit of suffering from migraines and, therefore, slept in her own bedroom. He proposed that due to her decreased food intake as well as utilization of pain medication, she may have experienced disorientation leading up to an accidental fall. The Los Angeles Times reported on how Earley declared his belief in this version of events but noted that no clear explanation for the exact circumstances surrounding Sills’ fall emerged during questioning.
