On Monday, authorities successfully captured a man who had been sentenced to life in prison without parole after he managed to escape from prison in southeast Texas, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
A spokesperson for the TDCJ named Amanda Hernandez revealed that 39-year-old Robert Yancy Jr. Was apprehended in Matagorda County after 8 a.m. The capture took place at a park in Palacios, which is 45 miles west of the Clemens Unit of the Texas Department of Corrections. Two vigilant civilians recognized Yancy. He promptly alerted the police, leading to his capture.
Yancy had been serving a life sentence without any possibility of parole since his conviction in 2022 for abusing a child, in Victoria County.
The escape occurred on a Sunday afternoon. Hernandez mentioned that two individuals, including Yancy’s mother, who is suspected of helping him escape have been taken into custody.

According to Hernandez’s account “His mother came to the unit wearing a sweater and beanie. He put them on. Managed to leave with her by walking out of the unit.”Currently, there is no evidence in the court records suggesting that any formal charges have been brought against either of the two individuals who are believed to have aided Yancy in his escape.
