Belgian Tourist Killed in Animal Attack at Zihuatanejo, Mexico

A fatal incident occurred on Thursday at the Pacific coast resort of Zihuatanejo in Mexico, where a Belgian tourist lost his life in an attack by either a shark or a crocodile, according to officials.

The civil defense office in the southern state of Guerrero reported that a man and a woman suffered leg bites from an unidentified animal. Tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the woman was promptly transported to a hospital. The nationality of the woman has not been immediately clarified, but state officials confirmed that the deceased man was from Belgium.

Authorities are currently examining the nature of the wounds to determine whether they resulted from a shark or a crocodile attack, both of which are known to inhabit the region. If it is confirmed as a shark attack, this would mark the second fatality of its kind this month along Mexico’s southern Pacific coast.

In a separate incident earlier in December, a Mexican woman lost her life after a severe shark bite to the leg near the beach town of Melaque, situated west of the seaport of Manzanillo.
