A Texas high school basketball coach is on the road to recovery after an incident where he was attacked by one of his players, whom he had benched during a game earlier that evening, according to law enforcement officials.
The assault occurred on the evening of December 5, around 9:52 p.m., prompting the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in Texas to dispatch deputies to Willis High School. The incident unfolded in the school’s parking lot, as outlined in a statement released by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, identified as a coach in the Willis Independent School District, reported being assaulted by multiple individuals, including a student. The coach explained that the attack occurred upon their return to the school after a game between Willis and Conroe. The student in question had been benched during the game due to inappropriate behavior towards an opposing team player, an action that reportedly angered both the student and his family.
Upon the coach’s return to the high school, he found the student and his family waiting in the parking lot. Although the coach initially entered the school premises, he encountered the student and his family again upon exiting, leading to a verbal confrontation. This confrontation escalated into physical violence, with the student punching the coach in the face. Simultaneously, the student’s brother also joined in assaulting the coach.

Witnesses, including another coach and several unidentified bystanders, intervened and attempted to break up the altercation. Once separated, both suspects fled the scene. Subsequent investigation by law enforcement involved reviewing video surveillance and interviewing witnesses, confirming the coach’s account of the events. The coach sustained injuries to his head, neck, face, and arms as a result of the assault.
