Machete Attacks: Manhunt Underway for Suspect

Philadelphia police are currently on the lookout for an individual responsible for a series of unprovoked machete attacks in Pennypack Park, a popular recreational area for hikers, runners, and bicyclists in Northeast Philadelphia. During a recent news conference, Police Inspector Deshawn Beaufort expressed concern over the random violence, revealing that two individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attacks that occurred in November.

The assailant, described as a Latino man with a medium complexion, standing around 5 feet, 10 inches, and weighing approximately 180 pounds, is believed to be in his 40s, 50s, or possibly 60s. The incidents occurred on November 22 and November 24, with both victims being targeted without any provocation while on the park’s trail.

The first attack transpired at 8:15 a.m. on November 22 when a runner cautioned a bicyclist about their approach. In a sudden and unexpected turn of events, the bicyclist launched a machete attack, causing injuries to the runner’s arms and hands. The second incident unfolded around 9 a.m. on November 24 when another victim, walking with a companion along the park’s trail, was similarly slashed.

Both victims were hospitalized, although specific details about their conditions remain undisclosed. In response to the alarming incidents, the police have intensified patrols within the park to enhance the safety of park-goers.

A report received on November 25 described an encounter with an individual matching the attacker’s description. The person, displaying aggressive behavior, attempted to retrieve an unknown object from his bicycle. The witness promptly fled the scene, and detectives suspect that the individual may have had a machete-style knife tied to his bike.

Inspector Beaufort cautioned the public against approaching the suspect and urged them to contact the police immediately with any relevant information. The suspect was last seen wearing a black hoodie and all-black clothing, riding a black BMX bicycle, which is typically smaller in size. The police are actively seeking assistance from the community to identify and locate the individual responsible for these alarming attacks.
