A security guard employed at the Eras Tour in Minneapolis alleges that he lost his job after requesting fans to snap pictures of him positioned in front of Taylor Swift.

Calvin Decker, who admits to having pursued the security position primarily to gain access to a Swift concert without purchasing tickets, gained widespread attention when a fan uploaded a video of him harmonizing with her 2019 track “Cruel Summer” during a June performance at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Decker was assigned to a spot facing the central stage. In a TikTok video released a few days after the concert, he disclosed that he was obligated to keep his attention fixed on the audience and was not permitted to turn towards Swift.

“After the first night, I started realizing how close Taylor Swift was getting to my location. I became really eager to capture a photograph as proof. So, I distributed these small notes stating that I wasn’t allowed to have my phone visible. However, if Taylor Swift happened to be right behind me, I requested the recipients to take a photo of me and send it to my number. I handed out these notes to a couple of individuals in the front row for the second night, and they responded kindly and obligingly,” Decker recounted.

Decker clarified that he did not give a note to the woman who shared the widely circulated TikTok video of him singing. Nonetheless, he expressed his elation at his unexpected surge in popularity.

In an update video posted in August, Decker revealed that his employer, Best Crowd Management, terminated his employment due to a regulation that prohibited staff members from taking photos with performers. Decker stated that the company raised concerns about his distribution of notes to attendees, requesting them to send him photos in which he had “managed to appear.”

“Furthermore, the HR representative who contacted me struggled to precisely outline my wrongdoing, as my actions were limited to seeking photos—a customary occurrence at any other concert. The sole difference is that I made certain to collect those in which I was involved,” Decker remarked.
