A tragic incident occurred in California where a 3-year-old child killed their 1-year-old sister with an unsecured firearm. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department responded to a distress call around 7:30 a.m. local time at a residence in Fallbrook, situated approximately 55 miles north of San Diego.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the 3-year-old had gained access to an unsecured handgun, as reported in a news release by the sheriff’s department. Regrettably, the family’s 1-year-old daughter sustained a head injury during the incident. She was immediately transported to Palomar Hospital but, tragically, succumbed to her injuries one hour later.

At this time, it remains unclear whether any parents or guardians were present in the home when the shooting occurred. The sheriff’s department expressed condolences to the family and those affected by the devastating loss. Homicide investigators from the Sheriff’s Department are diligently working to gather additional information to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.

3-Year-Old Accidentally Kills

Officials have emphasized that there are no outstanding suspects and no danger to the community arising from the incident. The district attorney’s office has been informed about the shooting and will be kept updated on the progress of the investigation. To determine the exact cause and manner of the child’s death, the medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy.
