Tragedy Struck at Ed Sheeran Concert as Heatwave Leads to Hospitalizations

A crisis unfolded over the weekend when 17 individuals were rushed to the hospital due to severe heat conditions during an Ed Sheeran concert. Among those affected, two workers suffered cardiac arrests towards the end of the performance at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as part of the renowned singer’s Mathematics Tour.

The City of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services reported that “a worker involved in dismantling the stadium setup collapsed due to cardiac arrest on the venue floor.” Additionally, “while leaving the facility, one of the paramedics from an external agency also experienced a cardiac arrest on Art Rooney Ave.”

Both patients were swiftly transported to Allegheny General Hospital, where they were successfully resuscitated.

Weather data from Weather Underground revealed that temperatures in Pittsburgh soared to a high of 81 degrees between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. before gradually dropping to 75 degrees just before midnight on Sunday. Throughout the day, humidity levels reached up to 78%.

Although Ed Sheeran and his team have not provided any official statements regarding the hospitalizations, the musician did take to Instagram to express his gratitude to fans for their support following Saturday’s performance. He wrote, “I truly cherished all the energetic dancing and heartfelt moments.”

According to the National Weather Service, heat cramps are often the first sign of potential heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Individuals experiencing worsening symptoms such as vomiting, headaches, dizziness, or confusion are advised to seek immediate medical assistance.
