Employee kills 4, injures 8, after opening fire in Louisville bank

According to authorities, a 23-year-old employee opened fire inside Louisville bank, Kentucky, on Monday morning, leaving four people dead and eight others wounded.

Around 8:30 a.m., Connor Sturgeon entered the Old National Bank in the city’s center, next to Slugger Field, and started shooting, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Within minutes, police arrived and engaged the gunman in gunfire.

In a news briefing on Monday afternoon, the LMPD revealed that Sturgeon was shot and killed by police after he pointed a gun at them while live-streaming his attack on Instagram.

The four dead victims have been named as bank workers Tommy Elliot, 63, Jim Tutt, 64, Josh Barrick, 40, and Juliana Farmer, 57.

Among those injured were two police officers, including Nicholas Wilt, 26, who was shot in the head. Wilt, who had just recently graduated from the police school, underwent brain surgery and is currently listed in stable condition at the University of Louisville Hospital, according to LMPD.

According to authorities, three victims are in non-critical condition, three are in non-critical condition, and two more victims have been declared dead.

A tearful Elliot spoke to Gov. Andy Beshear as a close friend who “built my law career, helped me become governor, and gave me advice on how to be a good dad.”

He said, “These are irreplaceable, amazing individuals that a terrible act of violence tore from all of us,” adding that he knew some of the other victims personally.

Beshear talked as investigators frantically looked for a reason behind the bank shooting.

Video from the event shows one of the bank’s windows being blasted out and glass being thrown all over the place.

Even into Monday afternoon, crime scene investigators could be seen delineating multiple gunshot holes in the glass next to the bank’s entrance.

Witnesses informed WHAS11 that they observed a guy fire several bullets in a conference room on the first level of the bank building while brandishing a “long assault rifle.”

Troy Haste, a bank employee who witnessed the incident, stated, “He just started firing.” I missed seeing his face. In the meeting room, we were. Anyone close to me was shot, and their blood got on me.

Another witness claimed that he fled for his life as soon as the firing started.

“There is a break room here. I entered and shut the door and reopened it to see where he was, and I could see him continuing to shoot,” the guy told WHAS-TV. “Once, I couldn’t see his face and ran out the front door.”

One of the bank’s windows looked to have been blasted out in the footage, leaving glass all over the ground.

When the shooting started, the bank wasn’t accessible to the general public.

A motorist who only gave her name as Debbie told WDRB that she had stopped at the traffic signals outside the bank when she noticed a man lying on the entrance stairs, seemingly hurt.

Afterward, she heard gunfire.

She added, “I took off; I didn’t know if it was going at or out of the bank.” “When I turned, I noticed the bank’s window had been blown out.”

She reported that many law enforcement cars flocked to the location right away.

They were arriving from all directions, she claimed. The cops were out of their vehicles with dark weapons.

According to deputy chief Humphrey, the responding officers’ actions unquestionably saved lives.

This is a terrible occurrence, he declared. However, it was the police’ brave response that ensured there were no worse injuries than what occurred.

“Once again, our nation mourns after a senseless act of gun violence – Jill and I pray for the lives lost and impacted by today’s shooting,” President Biden said in a statement following the incident.
