Barstool Sports has become somewhat of a household name among sports fans nationwide. Unfortunately, the reason Barstool Sports has been in the news recently has entailed reasons that have nothing to do with athletics. Back in February, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy sued Insider.com after the site published two articles describing unsavory details about Portnoy’s sexual encounters with multiple younger women.
Multiple women featured in the stories shared accounts of harrowing sexual misconduct at the hands of Portnoy, who is 45 years of age. Last week, a federal judge determined that Portnoy lacked the evidence necessary to prove that Insider.com had wrongful intentions against him. Since Portnoy failed to supply that requirement of the case, it was dismissed, but Portnoy didn’t seem to be down in the dumps about it on Twitter.

In a video he shared, he talked about the case, and legal experts told him that the defamation case is difficult to prove for public figures.
The lawsuit that Portnoy filed against Insider named co-founder and CEO Henry Blodget, editor-in-chief Nicholas Carson and reporters Melkorka Licea and Julia Black as defendants. Portnoy’s claim in the case was that the articles were published as “hit pieces” designed to destroy his reputation while increasing traffic for insider.com.

The first article was published on the site about a year ago, and the follow-up article went public after 4 months.
