Man told to go directly to jail without passing go after family Monopoly game night turns violent

Monopoly game night becomes real-life problem

If you have ever played Monopoly, then you know there is a chance of drawing a card that tells you to go directly to jail. A man in Oklahoma decided to turn a family game night into reality, as a game of Monopoly landed the man in jail after a dispute with his stepfather.

According to the Tulsa Police Department, John Armstrong was drinking with relatives in Tulsa on Saturday when he started to fight with his stepdad over the game. During their fight, Armstrong and his stepfather knocked over the Monopoly board and overturned furniture. Another family member told the pair to take the fight outside.

Taking it outside is what they did, and the men continued their fight. After getting cut on the head, Armstrong allegedly pulled out a gun. He proceeded to chase his stepdad and stepsister down the street, police said. Neighbors did state they heard a gunshot from the street. Armstrong admitted to police that he fired the gun once, but he shot “at the ground,” officials said.

Police arrived at the scene, but they were not able to find the gun. Police believe Artmstrong hid the gun in the house before surrendering to police. There was not an immediate reason why the pair started fighting over the classic board game.

He may have used the “Get Out Of Jail Free” card in the game, but he was not as lucky on this one. He was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Court records show Armstrong is still being held on a $25,000 bond, officials said.
