Police says Pennsylvania man beat his 6-year-old daughter, buried her alive for lying

A man beat his 6-year-old daughter in Pennsylvania. She was allegedly beaten, choked, and buried in the yard by her own father because he thought she was lying, according to officials. Now the dad has been arrested based on these “barbaric” allegations.

According to the police, the girl was interviewed by investigators and told them her dad, John Kraft, 50, often hits her with a belt and with his arm, which has a metal rod from surgery. She also said he would bury her in a hole in the yard and leave her in it overnight, the New York Post reported.

In a statement from Greene County District Attorney David Russo, he said, “The allegations are that this child was beaten brutally, that the child had bruises all over her body, that she was choked to the point that she had passed out. She was buried in a hole as punishment. She was thrown in a hole overnight. Her head was slammed off the wall and slammed off the floor. This is a barbaric situation.”

Back in September, social workers talked with the girl and found severe bruising on the girl’s face and body. Two weeks ago, the child and a sibling were interviewed by police, and they told the authorities that Kraft allegedly buried the girl in a hole in the yard.

According to police, the girl said her dad would leave her in the yard “until she told the truth and that she would come out of the ground dirty and smelling like sewer.”

Kraft was arrested and has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, strangulation, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment of a minor, and unlawful restraint of a minor. He remains in jail, and his bond was set at $125,000.

Russo added, “My office has always taken a strong stance against child abuse. We will not tolerate it in our county, and this individual will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Officials said the two children have reportedly been placed in foster care.
