Jimmy Donaldson, more known to the public as Mr. Beast, has become one of the world’s most famous YouTube stars with the combination of his six channels having 91 million subscribers and his videos having a total of 13 billion views.  Mr. Donaldson has reached total success in the realm of online media at the young age of 22, but now Donaldson intends to spread his success to other areas of business as he strives to reach the success of his role model Elon Musk.

He began his YouTube career while he was in middle school in 2012.  He had decent success, but it wasn’t until he began making videos of him giving away thousands of dollars to strangers on the street that he became extremely popular in the YouTube community.

Since then, Mr. Donaldson has begun to partake in other business ventures such as creating his own ghost kitchen known as Mr. Beast Burger.  Mr. Beast Burger did achieve significant success as it sold over one million burgers. He has also become a financial advisor for other online content creators, and he also began to invest in tech start-ups.

His career did not start as smooth, however. His earliest videos were criticized for commonly using slurs and inappropriate jokes.  He was also criticized by his fans for endorsing a cryptocurrency scheme that resulted in several fans losing significant amounts of money.

Mr. Donaldson has further expanded his business by employing nearly two dozen people to help with content creation, etc..  Surprisingly the charismatic, and generous behavior that Donaldson exhibits during his YouTube videos does not translate to his office life according to former employees.  Mr. Donaldson’s employees usually consisted of family and friends but as the brand of Mr. Beast began to expand so did his workforce.  Those who were outside his circle of friends and family experience a much darker side of Mr. Donaldson in which one employee, Matt Turner, said “Mr. Donaldson had berated him almost every day. Mr. Donaldson often called him by a phrase used to insult people with mental disabilities,” Mr. Turner said, “leaving him in tears.”  Other accounts of this have been mentioned in which one employee, Nate Anderson, said working for Mr. Donaldson was the “worst week of my life.”

Despite non-favorable work conditions, the brand of Mr. Beast is growing rapidly and with current projections, Mr. Donaldson is expected to become the most subscribed creator in the world.  In which case, we will all be seeing more of Mr. Beast.

Esports Enter the Olympic Games?

Published

Competitive video games have been on a steady rise in popularity following the covid-19 pandemic as people around the world stayed inside and found various means of entertainment.  With the growing popularity of esports, the International Olympic Committee has announced that it intends to consider the possibility of competitive video games becoming a part of the Olympics Games for the years to come.

With the Tokyo Olympics just around the corner, this year the Olympics will have a virtual esports event that will run from May 13 to June 23.  While this event will not be an official part of the Olympic games it will act as a test run to gauge the popularity of esports in future Olympic Games.  However, with an increase in Covid-19 cases throughout Japan, the esports event that was supposed to take place before the Olympic games may be delayed along with the regular Olympic Games.  Other organizations have already decided to implement esports as a recognized competitive sport as the Asian Games, also known as Asiad, has chosen to make esports a full medal event in their 2022 games.

The industry of competitive gaming is expected to grow as the total revenue from the industry is expected to pass $1 billion by the end of 2021 which is a 15% increase from the previous year.

Is Streaming Killing The Songwriting Industry?

Temporibus autem quibusdam et aut officiis debitis aut rerum necessitatibus saepe eveniet ut et voluptates repudiandae.

Songwriters across the country are becoming more concerned as to the financial impacts that
streaming music has had on them. Songwriters gain very little of the total profits from
streaming songs and since many songwriters work on teams, that little bit of money gets split
up even further.

It appears that people generally care more about the artists than the songwriter, however this
was not always the case. For a long time, songwriters wrote for artists but then the Beatles
came along and flipped the script. After the Beatles, it was common for artists to write their
own songs but now, we see a shift back to the artist-songwriter relationship – with the artists
gaining all the recognition.

Despite the artists receiving all the credit and praise for specific songs, a study conducted by
Media Research found that “twice as many streaming users said a song mattered more to them
than the artist who performed it.” It would seem that while the artists gain all the recognition,
the songwriters are actually the ones who are drawing in the audience.

Famous songwriters like Abba’s Bjorn Ulvaeus are worried about this financial impact on
songwriters and believe it will have a negative impact on the quality of music that will be
produced in the coming years. Ulvaeus claims that while people will continue to make music,
the craftsmanship required to produce good songs will greatly diminish. According to an
interview with Ulvaeus by the New York Times, Ulvaeus stated “what you get is someone
writing what they think is a song. And sometimes, by accident, they write something that’s got
a hook, and it’s a hit suddenly. But the thing is, they don’t know what they’ve done… You have
to realize what a good song is. And if you can’t recognize garbage, it’s very hard to know what a
good song is.”

Unfortunately, as an average listener there is not much that we can do to attempt to prevent
this problem from growing. Changes need to be made to the model of music streaming in
order to offer greater benefit to the songwriters rather than the performing artists themselves.
All the average person can do is acknowledge and appreciate the great works of songwriters
and offer support for their continued work.

Outfest has recently announced that it will honor Elliot Page at this year’s LGBTQ film festival with the annual Achievement Award.

The star of acclaimed movies such as Juno and Inception came out as transgender on his social media profiles last fall. Page, in an emotional statement, wrote, “I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.”

Page’s award will be given to her by Kieran Medina, the leading programmer of the festival’s Trans and Nonbinary Summit, at Outfest’s closing night gala on Aug. 22 at the Orpheum Theatre.

“When determining the recipient of our highest honor we look for those that have been a powerful representative for our community, that have soared to the highest levels of recognition for their talent and who have stepped into the shoes themselves as an independent filmmaker and creator,” Damien S. Navarro, Outfest’s executive director, exclaimed in a recent statement. “There is no one more poised to receive this year’s Outfest Annual Achievement Award than Elliot. His courage, advocacy and personal journey have made him one of the most admired and respected public figures of his generation and his talent and voice are leading a new generation within the LGBTQIA+ and entertainment community.”

Elliot’s passion for social justice and filmmaking has allowed him to work as a producer and documentary filmmaker. Page has stated that it is important for everyone to use their voices and platforms while fighting for LGBTQ rights and social justice.

“It gives me great honor to be the recipient of this year’s Outfest Annual Achievement Award and represent the LGBTQ Plus community,” Elliot stated. “Now more than ever, it is so important for our voices to be amplified and represented in film and media, and for people to hear our stories.”

So when is it okay to use lorem ipsum? First, lorem ipsum works well for staging. It’s like the props in a furniture store—filler text makes it look like someone is home. The same WordPress template might eventually be home to a fitness blog, a photography website, or the online journal of a cupcake fanatic. Lorem ipsum helps them imagine what the lived-in website might look like.

Second, use lorem ipsum if you think the placeholder text will be too distracting. For specific projects, collaboration between copywriters and designers may be best, however, like Karen McGrane said, draft copy has a way of turning any meeting about layout decisions into a discussion about word choice. So don’t be afraid to use lorem ipsum to keep everyone focused.

One word of caution: make sure your client knows that lorem ipsum is filler text. You don’t want them wondering why you filled their website with a foreign language, and you certainly don’t want anyone prematurely publishing it.
